We hold a number of clinics each year. In keeping with our philosophy of no pressure, some of those are just for women. Each clinic includes a ride to explore riding techniques and some practical skills that focus on maintenance issues.
Cycling is more fun when you have confidence in your ability. As your rides increase in duration, it's important that you know how to take care of basic issues should you have a mechanical problem—such as a flat—while out on your ride.
Our women's clinics have discussed fit issues, how to change flat tires, putting the chain back on, cleaning your bike and how to diagnose basic maintenance issues, such as problems with brake or shifter cables or the wheels.
Maintenance: Women's Clinic
Everyone wants to know the essentials of bike maintenance to avoid being stranded on the road, but beyond that men and women differ a bit in what they want. While many men want an education into how to perform all their own maintenance (guys love to take things apart), most women see things a little differently.
As a result we offer a special series of clinics for our female clientele. We start with the basics: pumping up your tires before each ride, fixing flats, lubricating the chain and even cleaning your bike. But rather than train our female clientele to perform their own tune-ups, we've found they generally want to know more about how to inspect the bike and the signs to look for that indicate a bicycle needs to be serviced.
To help you be a partner in your bicycle's ongoing maintenance, we'll show you how to check for:
Derailleur adjustment
True wheels
Brake pad wear
Chain stretch
Frame cracks
... and more.
