After the success of sponsoring, “Phil Keoghan of The Amazing Race rides Across America”, Los Angeles-based NOW-MS Society cycling team is pleased to announce that Specialized Bicycle Components will sponsor their U25 Elite Development Men’s and Women’s team for 2010 and 2011.
Heading into its seventh year, the team has produced seven professionals including Olympian, Michael Blatchtord. Specialized will provide financial support, bikes, helmets, shoes, eyewear and gloves. Working in conjunction with Specialized dealer, Cynergy Cycles, they will also assist in fundraising events to create awareness for the National MS Society. Athletes on both Men’s and Women’s teams will ride Specialized bikes with men on the Tarmac and women on the Ruby and Amira.
Kurt Stockton, the former director & owner of the Kodak Gallery/Sierra Nevada Professional road team has signed on to be the team’s sport director. “We’re very excited about the relationship with Specialized and are happy the NOW-MS program was chosen to promote developmental cycling in the US. This is an important milestone in our program’s pursuit of its U25 development initiatives. We look forward to creating the ideal environment to educate young athletes and give them the skills needed to succeed not only in the peloton, but also in life”.
Title sponsor NOW (www.nooportunitywasted.com) is a lifestyle brand created by television producing team Louise and Phil Keoghan (a seven-time Emmy award winner for his work on CBS’s “The Amazing Race”.) NOW is about turning thoughts into action, ditching the excuses and living life NOW!
In addition to its U25 development mission, the team also races to raise money and awareness for the National MS Society. In 2009 NOW-MS Society members raised over $115,000USD for this great cause. With support from GNC, Phil Keoghan rode more than 3,500 miles across America and generated an additional $500,000USD.
A complete roster of sponsors is still being finalized, but so far in addition to NOW, the MS Society, and Specialized, the following have committed for 2010: Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Bicycling, Cynergy, ExOfficio, UBS, and Velo-Fit.
The team is accepting resumes for its U25 elite men’s team. Interested category 1 and 2 riders must be U25, reside in southern California, be committed to racing as a team, and help raise money for the MS Society. Submit a race resume to eddie@velo-fit.com.
