Enter your first mountain bike race at the US Cup Santa Ynez, Sunday June 5th!  Let us show you how.

UPDATE 5/26!!  “A Day in the Dirt” Extends Special Invite to all High School Athletes; Boys & Girls Categories Ages 12 to 18, FREE Entry Fee, and Support and Guidance from Robert Forster PT and Phase IV Scientific Health & Performance Center.   NOTE:  May 29th group ride moved to Will Rogers Park.

High School mountain bike racing is taking the country by storm, and Cynergy Cycles and Phase IV Scientific Health & Performance Center want to help Santa Monica and West LA area students get in the dirt with their first mountain bike race.  After a groundbreaking 7 year run in Northern California, the first ever SoCal High School Cycling League was founded in 2008.  Starting small, with fewer than 10 teams, the 2011 season saw teams from 26 different area high schools across SoCal.  High School leagues have also formed in Colorado, Washington, Minnesota, and Texas, with more starting up every year.  Many of these teams and racers got their start racing open US Cycling events in the youth categories.
 
The US Cup Santa Ynez on June 5th will offer several categories for High School age athletes including both Boys and Girls across all ability and experience levels, from ages 12 to 18.   To encourage High School riders to give this exciting sport a try, Cynergy and Phase IV are sponsoring a training ride, FREE entry fees, and mechanic and technical support at the race.  Robert Forster, PT, an avid endurance cyclist, head coach of the Santa Monica HS wrestling team, and Founder and CEO of Phase IV will partner with the Cynergy Pro Mountain Bike Ambassadors to provide guidance these young athletes on topics including safe riding techniques, hydration and nutrition, injury prevention, proper warm-up and pacing strategy, and how to train and improve for the future.
 
All interested athletes and parents should RSVP for the May 29th training ride and June 5th race according to the details in the press release below.  As interest and excitement grows, additional race events will be planned and the formation of a true Santa Monica area high school team for the 2012 season will be explored. 

Note that the May 29th ride will now take place from Will Rogers Park off of Sunset in Pacific Palisades.  Meet at Cynergy a 7am, or at the Will Rogers main parking lot at the Polo Field at 7:45am.

Calling all roadies, triathletes, ‘cross fanatics, recreational riders, and anyone who’s ever wondered what it would be like to enter a mountain bike race.  This is your chance to make it happen!  Cynergy Cycles and the Cynergy Pro Mountain Bike Ambassadors are hosting a trip to the US Cup in beautiful Santa Ynez, on Sunday June 5th  Among the many things offered are a free training ride on Sunday May 29th, vanpool to the race on June 5th, mechanical support, and FREE RACE ENTRY for all Juniors, U23, and first-time mountain bike racers.  Yes, you read that correctly!  Cynergy is sponsoring free race entries, normally $50.

About the Race:

The Santa Ynez course is a beautiful yet challenging loop through the rolling hills of wine country, high in the mountains above Santa Barbara.  Miles of singletrack twist and turn through the open country side of this private ranch, adjacent to the Firestone Vineyard, just 10 short miles from Solvang and the site of the Tour of California time trial course.  There are categories for Men and Women, Beginner Level through UCI Pro, and all Ages from U10 to 70+. The terrain is challenging enough for the top pros, but is also suitable for riders of all abilities, with each category having its own route and lap count.   Fast fireroads, steep switchback climbs, and miles of narrow rolling singletrack make this one of the best courses on the US Cup circuit.  There is no better venue to take your first leap into the world of mountain biking.

About the Cynergy Pro Ambassador Program:

Our Ambassadors are here to represent Cynergy and Specialized at events throughout the west coast, and to help our customers get the most out of mountain biking, their equipment, their racing, and reaching their personal goals.  The program is lead Cynergy-sponsored athletes Nate Whitman and Gerry Cody.  Both are licensed UCI Pro category racers, former California State Champions, and Top-10 finishers of the Leadville Trail 100.  They can help you with your training and your bike handling skills, advise on equipment set up, and answer your questions about the ins and outs of a tough mountain bike race.  They are excited to help you dive in with both feet.

What’s Included?

Prior to the race, we will host a free group training ride at Sycamore Canyon in Malibu, on Sunday May 29.  Riders will meet at Cynergy at 7am.  Coffee and bagels will be available and we will take a quick look at your bike and set up.  We will depart in the Cynergy Team Van and other personal vehicles as needed, at 8am, headed north for Sycamore.  Once at the park, there will be at least 2 different rides, based on ability and fitness.  You can ask strategy questions, practice your sillks, and get acclimated to trails that will be similar to the Santa Ynez course.
For the race itself, Cynergy will be offering vanpool to the venue, mechanic and feed zone support, demo and loaner bikes (as available, quantities limited), and of course the FREE RACE ENTRY for all Juniors, U23, and first-time mountain bike racers.
